Doctor, are you wondering why so many different claims are being made from laser company to laser company and from rep to rep? Its quite simple, really, and I know you already know the answer. We all want YOU to invest in OUR laser! Class 3 vs. Class 4, power, power density, time, penetration, burning and tissue damage, hair, price, training and so on and so forth. These are all "selling points", regardless if they are true or if they are fictitious. It is rather obvious that
Scare Tactics are being used in some circumstances, 99% of which are unfounded, unresearched myth handed down without thought from company to manager to rep. This deliberate fabrication adds to the confusion, which slows the buying process, and ultimately prohibits YOU from getting a laser, earning extra revenue, and producing better patient outcomes.
The Spin Stops Here
Look, as I've stated in my book, I believe all lasers work. Some are, in fact, better than others. It really depends on what you're trying to accomplish and what the clinical need is. Sure, pricing and value are important. If you have $200-$300 monthly budget and only treat a lot of superficial conditions and wounds, then a Class IIIb is good enough. If you can invest $400-$500 monthly and want to save time as well as treat deeper pathologies such as arthritis and DJD, then a class IV is what you need.
See Beer-Lambert Law. Class IVs treat everything that Class III's treat.

Burning and tissue damage: what a croc! A SURGICAL class IV was made to cut and coagulate tissue. Dont be fooled by reps that tell you that THERAPY class IVs do this. There is no proof of this. I recently was shown a picture of a human arm that the rep claimed was made by a class IV... sadly for the rep, in front of the Doctor, I Googled that same picture on my iPad (prior knowledge) and showed that it was caused by Oleylamine Chemical Burn. Ouch... oddly enough one of the applications for Class IV Therapy Lasers is burns. Go figure. If this were truly the case, then the FDA would have warning letters all over the place and there would be an outcry from the Veterinary and Medical communities. Class IV Therapy Lasers are the #1 selling piece of Capital Equipment in the VET market!
